The same gameplay as the original Torchlight, Torchlight II features randomly generated dungeons for you to discover and it features overland areas with multiple hub towns and a longer campaign. There are numerous types of monsters to fight for experience and loot. New features consist of a time of day cycles, redesigned user interface, and weather effects. In this part, some weapons and armor can only be used by certain classes, as opposed to all of them. You can modify character appearance with a choice of sex, face, hairstyle and hair color. Moreover, several elements are appearing in the first game return, such as pets and fishing.
The game features four playable character classes: the Engineer, the Outlander, the Berserker, and the Embermage. Each class has 3 skill trees for you to choose which enable customization within each class. For instance, The Engineer (the Railman) is a heavy melee fighter who owns ember-powered steampunk technology. Skill Trees of this class are Blitz, Construction, and Aegis. The Outlander is a wandering nomad who owns ranged weapons and low magic whose skill trees are Warfare, Lore, Sigil. The Berserker uses quick attacks and animal-themed special powers whose skill trees are Hunter, Tundra and Shadow. The Embermage is a highly trained spell-casting class with elemental attacks whose skill trees are Inferno, Frost, and Storm.
